PRIMARY TENNIS

Y3/4 MINI RED TOURNAMENT

This competition was held at Purley Sports club and played in warm, sunny & wind-free conditions. The teams were divided into two groups for the round robin stages with play-off matches to establish top places and a further match for every school against their equivalent team in the other group. The standard of tennis was impressive, but the level of sportsmanship and determination was even more impressive.

Thanks go to leaders from John Fisher and Carshalton Boys who umpired the matches all afternoon. Huge thanks go to Terry Cooper – head coach at Purley tennis club for organising the schedule and preparing all the paper work once again this year. Please contact terry.coopertennis@sky.com  if you would like to find out more about tennis coaching sessions for your school.

The Y3/4 END RESULTS were extremely close and were all decided by a matter of a few points

SCHOOL GAMES VALUES focused on SELF-BELIEF and DETERMINATION. Certificates were awarded to both individual winners and teams, based on nominations from leaders & teachers

TEAM WINNERS – Foresters & Abbey

Y5/6 ORANGE BALL TOURNAMENT

This is the first year that this age-group have had a schools pathway competition. We were very fortunate that we were able to play this tournament at Sutton Sports Village and to be given 6 indoor courts as it turned out to be one of the wettest days of spring!

The teams were split into A & B groups. Teams played a round robin first before progressing onto play-off stages. The standard of tennis was amazing, with lots of close matches, but the level of sportsmanship and determination was also equally apparent.

Huge thanks go to Andy – head coach at SSV – and his team of coaches who helped umpire matches and organising the schedule and results. Please contact Andrew Jeffery Andrew.Jeffery@GLL.ORG  if you would like to find out more about tennis opportunities for your school or any individual pupils who are interested in pursuing tennis.
